Lecture Notes

  • Lecture 1 _ Introduction and Basics Of Photoshop 
Week 1 (2/4/19)

Short cuts:

D = To default back to B&W 
X = To switch between Foreground and Background.

Our first class we learned on how to use the clipping mask tool.

These were the steps we learned

Open image file in Photoshop, Selecting image using Quick Selection, Zoom in, out and panning images, Copy and Paste, Deselect Images, Undo and Redo, History, Layers, Deleting Layer, Duplicating Layer, Rearrange Layer, Opacity Layer, Transform Layer, Hue and Saturation, Match Color, Move Tool, Shadow Painting, Filter > Noise

Exercise Week 1

Hearst mansion. We were given a high res image of a mansions interior, and we are to edit ourselves in them.

  • Lecture 2 _ Ghost House
 Week 2 
This time we were to combine two images together. We were to use the blending tool along with the masking tool to recreate a scenery. In this exercise we also used the match colour tool.

On another exercise, using the same techniques we had to create another scenery with pictures given.

  • Lecture 3 _ Recolouring Exercise
Week 3

This week's exercise was focusing on recolouring photos . By using the masking and blending mode along with the paint tool. The first section for this exercise was to recolour a back and white portrait.

After learning how to use the tools we were then tasked to recolour a picture of our own choice.

  • Lecture 4 _ Changing Ones Stripes 
Week 4

This week we learned how to change the texture of things using the displacement mapping tool. How it works is that you find a texture and using the displacement technique, it will wrap the texture around giving it a skin like finish. Here is an example, we did in class.

After that to strengthen what we learned we combined a picture of a flag and a fabric, to give the flag a a wavy effect.

Lastly, we were to create our own image with the techniques that we have acquired.

  • Lecture 5 _ The Castle of Pyrenees 
Week 5

In week 5, we were left to our own skillsets and what we had learned so far to recreate an old art piece. We had to find our own layers and merging them together to create the piece.
