PROJECT 2
Week 7 (17/5/19)
This week after submitting our project 1, Mr.Vinod presented on the rules of Leading, Kerning, Tracking essentially on the Importance Text.
In typography, kerning is the process of adjusting the spacing between characters in a proportional font, usually to achieve a visually pleasing result. Kerning adjusts the space between individual letter forms
And then we have Tracking which can easily be confused to Kerning. Tracking is the typographer’s term for letter-spacing. Sometimes confused with kerning (to adjust spacing between individual letters), tracking adjusts the letter-spacing uniformly over a range of characters, the whole word.
Tracking affects the visual density of a word, phrase or paragraph.Decreasing the tracking makes the words appear more compact, while increasing tracking increases the amount of white space between letters and words, creating a more airy effect.
Lastly, we have the different ways of formatting your text, in layman terms, paragraph alignments. Which we all somewhat know from using any Microsoft software. You have centre left, centre, right and justified.
Type that calls attention to itself before the reader can get to the actual words is simply interference, and should be avvoided. Quite simply if you see the type before you you see the words, change the type.
So what i essentially did was retain the simple and straight forward features of Futura but gave it some serif lines and gave it a little bit of rounded edges. And i plan to add this treatment to all the other letters.

Week 9 (31/5/19)
It is submission week and all we're left to do is to import our files into FontLab and export it as a .OTF File. This is my Font Qaezie's Futura.
Week 7 (17/5/19)
After showing Mr.Vinod the sketch i was somewhat worried if i was allowed to do this, make a san serif font serif, but he said it was fine and i took it as a green-light for me to start digitising.
Week 8 (24/5/19)
Absent.
Week 9 (31/5/19)
Upon finishing retracing my characters the only issues I had were the letter S and L. The curves to my 'S' character were not even and he spotted that my letter "L" on illustrator was incomplete, i didn't complete the vector.
Week 7 (17/5/19)
I feel like everything is going by really fast. Not too fast, it's an appropriate pace, only therefore it means my brain has to suck in information quicker and with it being a long class 8 - 12pm with only a 10 minute toilet break, it does get really draining.
Week 8 (24/5/19)
Unfortunately i missed this weeks class due to high fever.
Week 9 (31/5/19)
Coming in i did feel slightly alienated due to missing class last-week. Im glad i was able to catch up with the rest, only i was little put off when Mr.Shamsul mistook me for another student and thought i was lurking outside of the class instead of being in class last week. Fortunately i have an MC to support my alibi. Other then that i feel very proud that i know how to produce my own fonts now.

Lecture 8 _ N/A
Week 8 (24/5/19)
Unfortunately i was not around during this lecture, due to high fever, but based on the short brief on InDesign Mr.Vinod gave in week 7 i manage to continue digitising my project 2 at home.
I took down a few notes on shortcuts, buttons and symbols that we should be aware of when using InDesign so that helped me.
Lecture 9 _ Text Indication
Week 9 (31/5/19)
On the last week of Project 2 a short lecture was given on text indicators we should look out for as a designer.
How to bring more attention to a text like giving a word different treatments like bold, underline or italic or giving it a different colour. We were also though on how to differentiate between headlines, sub-headlines and body text. We were also taught about the terms widows and orphans. Widows and orphans are lines at the beginning or end of a paragraph, which are left dangling at the top or bottom of a column, separated from the rest of the paragraph. After that we all went on continuing to finishing up our Project 2.
Week 7 (17/5/19)
After getting our brief, moving forward we all continued on starting our assignment. For starters we were all asked to dissect letters from the fonts we chose to recreate and mine was Futura. And this is so we understand the uniqueness and the general shape of the letters in that font.
After dissecting, we had to quickly sketch up the changes we wanted to do on the fonts and right off the bet i knew what i wanted to do, as this is always a font i've had in my head that i wanted but could never find or afford to buy when i see a similar on.

Week 8 (24/5/19)
Unfortunately I was not around for this class but i continued digitising my idea at home. How i tackled this assignment was was first 1) typed out the letters we need on Adobe illustrator normally with Futura as i want to retain the sharpness and simplicity of the original fonts and had it all on separate art boards. 2) expand the appearance of the font and with the direct selection tool hover over the letter so it reveals the anchor points and too a screenshot of it.
3) open the image in illustrator, lock in the image and retrace back the letter with the added serif.
below is fast forward screen recording of me illustrating the letter S.

And i repeated the same process for all the other letter. For some letters I didn't find the need to reveal the anchor points as its simple. Like the letter V.
