FINAL PROJECT
- FINAL PROJECT _ Recreation of Surrealist Art
So for our final project we are to recreate a surrealist artwork from a list of artists given. And this is the art work i picked by
KAREN LYNCH
And to recreate the work we are allowed to use stock images or our own images. It took a few searches here and there but it wasn't. I like the concept of irony in the art-work where the water life is above us when instead of under us.
So for my first attempt, with that concept in mind i used images of coral reefs and a crowd of people. These are the photos i used in my first attempt Using Photoshop.

And here is my final outcome.

First Attempt |
Feedback : Unfortunately Mr.Patrick and Mr.Martin didn't see the resemblance coming off. He told me to increase to ground up more and find a transition between the two images, as its too jarring. But they also added that it seems like it's not really replicating the artwork, its warmer and generally doesn't give off the same feel, replicating the concept of underwater being above is not enough of a replication. So its back to the drawing board.
After much thought i realised im too deep in to recreate and find new images. Yes i did try, i tried to find new stock images and tried to make it work but everything wasn't really working out.
But after playing around trying to figure it out, i realised i'm getting too worked up that i cant imagine how i want the end product to look like anymore. Fortunately i haven't deleted my old files and still tried my best to work with it.
Finally i decided to at least try and give it the same feel as the original. I lowered down the hue and added a cool filter on top. I also matched the water colour to the original artwork.

Second Attempt |
Its Week 12 and by right we should be on our way to animating it but something about my work wasn't making me happy. I could not stop comparing my work to my classmates, and i just felt like i picked the wrong art work to even begin with. it was like I hit a dead end, so i decided to to change my picture.
With the same concept, water above, land bottom. I chose an art work by the same artist
KAREN LYNCH.
But even still after changing i was not not happy, here stock images i used and few process pics of my third attempt.
And this was the out come.

Even after all the searching for stock images, editing, erasing, piecing this collage, I was still left not liking anything. I couldn't stop comparing myself to others still, and that really bugged the hell out of me. It even came to a point where I started to question my capability and choice of education.
Its week 13 and i gave this assignment a good rest. I was honestly starting to get too worked up. I gave myself a good amount of time to come to terms with the time i've wasted and bad decision i've done. Mr.Martin and Mr.Jeffrey were not happy with my decision but i decided to change my artwork again, this time it was for good. I came across this artwork by
THOM EASTON
Instantly i could easily disect the artwork to what terms i should search for and i quickly went for it. here are the element that made up my version of this art work.
It consisted picture of a skyline, green mountain, a cliff, a man sitting and two women facing the other way.

Final Version. |
Now to animate it, I first created the frames on Illustrator. Transferred the frames to Photoshop and using the Timeline option and turned the layers into frames. Instead of saving at as a GIF i rendered it to MP4.
I strategically placed sun-rays to the windows of the buildings, making it look like were catching the sunlight. All i had to do was move them around for each frame.
