Week 11 (14/6/19)
Week 11 (14/6/19)
Upon receiving our final assignment brief, i straight away started listing down catch phrases or PSA use in my life and started going through the web for typography poster layouts.
For starters two catch phrases i had in mind we're "Originality Is A Myth" and "Don't Be Afraid To Ask".
I went up to Mr.Vinod and Mr.Shamsul and explained how originality is a myth. People don't realise that everything has been done before, its just a matter of how well you can adapt a design or concept into your idea. I wanted the poster to have a naive look, to express a sense childishness, because your idea could have possibly been even done by a kindergartener without the kid realising.
Unfortunately my idea wasn't strong enough for it to be expressed through a poster. Mr.vinod then suggested that instead since we're also strong about the idea of repetition why not have it going in a circle, or looped.
And then I straight away and started digitising the idea on Illustrator and explore possible ways to make it go in circles.
Week 12 (31/5/19)
It's the second week of our final project. I went on and started experimenting further and included colour this time. I worked on both designs. So decided to go with red. I felt like to compare with the others mine was rather simple and didn't really have an eye catching factor, so i went with red as its very contrasting with the black and white background. And not to mention it give the phrase more emphasis.

I also thought id highlight one phrase, so passers can quickly decipher what this poster is conveying without having to analyse it too hard.
And the red dot was simply to catch the attention of the passers to the start of the spiral.
After consulting i decided to just cut the rounded rectangle shape and just go with circle. I realised that it was also rather hypnotising if you look at it long enough so to emphasis more on that idea, i
had the font size gradually grow as the spiral expands. Below is a fast forward screen recording of the process.
Upon completing the poster now we are to animate it. From the get go i knew i wanted it to go in circles to add more to give more life to the hypnotising element. Using After Effects, i made the texts go in circles.
Unfortunately, my laptop crashed when I was doing this and lost my screen recording. Here is my poster animated.
Week 11 (17/6/19)
Mr.Vinod and Mr.Shamsul were strong on having one idea and seeing it through. Mr.Vinod recon i get my design in circular forms to give more emphasis on the idea of repetition.
Week 12 (24/6/19)
I showed them two different designs. For the first design, he said i should make the fonts in the middle, smaller and the ones on the outer rings bigger. To make it more hypnotising. For the second design he asked to replace the spaces and have it shaped like arrows to indicate the direction it was going. And after applying the advices i got, i decided to drop the second design and just work on the first one, as i can see the animated version clearer in my head.
Week 11
Experience
Honestly at first i wasn't really into it his idea, so i came back with another design but they insisted that i see my first idea through but nonetheless i think i can picture the end result, and i like it.
Observation
I realise, that everyone had different ways in understanding this assignment and have their own approach.

Lecture 10 _ Typography in Different MediumWeek 11 (14/6/19)
This week, Mr. Shamsul conducted the lecture, it was on Typography In Different Mediums.
We learnt on the differences between print and screen. The purpose behind typography for print was to make reading easy for the people.

When it came to typefaces on screen on the other hand, they would sometime have to be altered. This resulted open spacing within typefaces, which made the characters more recognisable. Typefaces that were used for screens at that time were Open Sans, Lato, Arial, Helvetica, Times New Roman, Times, Courier New, Courier, Verdana, Georgia, Palatino, Garamond. And all these typefaces are are called web-safe typefaces. Back in the older days when computers started being a thing, some fonts would just not show up due to software differences and what it would do is the software would just automatically switch it to these web-safe fonts.
We also discussed static vs in motion typography. Static type contains minimal characteristics in expressing words. Some of these characteristics are bold or italic in which these forms of expression are only a fraction of expressive potenial that dynamic properties have. Motion typography on the other hand, offers oppurtunities to dramatize type for letterforms to become kinetic and fluid. A famous example of motion typography we were shown is the works of Saul Bass.

Experience
Today was a very productive day. I manage to finish up my work and im only left to animate itIm kinda on track and i have a good feeling about this project.
Observation
I see that any are having a hard time relaying their massages and making it graphically appealing.
