Project 2

Week 07 (27/5/20)

Type Specimen Sheet

After the content was generated, the next step was to create sample sheet type. This was to see body text, title, half title, subtext, pull quotes in different types.

this was quickly then rejected.

But the initial proposal for the book was
Heading: Poppins/ 80pt
Body text: Times New Roman/ 10pt
Pull-quote: Space Mono  / 20pt
Sub-text: Times New Roman/ 10pt

After that, we started on our layout. Mr Vinod told us to work on it from our half title to Chapter 1 while experimenting with at least three different grid systems. Mr Vinod told us to look at references to have a rough idea.

Week 08

This time we all came more prepared with the start of chapter 1 until the end. Since Mr.Vinod didn't like the last one i decided to go extra experimental this this time. And followed my layout references.

Also a new type set

Heading: Pillowlava/ 80pt
Body text: Futura Book Std/ 10pt
Pull-quote: Agrandir Wide  / 20pt
Sub-text: Times New Roman/ 10pt

First Attempt:

Mr.Vinod gave his comments and asked me to do some amendments on the spot. Like my half title and title. The rivers are also too jaring that it's effecting the readability.

Second Attempt:

After that i did my second attempt with necessary amendments for the start till end of chapter 1.

I revised my grid system and added a forth font for the pull-quotes.

Third Attempt:

After that with same treatment, pt size and spacing from my second attempt of Pg 1 -15 I continued to till the end of the of the book pg 16-34.

Week 09

For the book cover I went straight to what I had imagined and surprisingly it was excepted.  With minor feedback to align the name to the title.

Cover Page :

After that it was just refinement process and uploading it up on to issuu.

Feedback

Week 07

General Feedback:
Don't put the youtube video on our blog but the lecture slide instead. Before going he told everyone to make-sure to follow our layout references. Copy it first then from there you make your own changes. Perfection will only come with constant repetition

Week 08

General Feedback:
Pull quote is something need to emphasise on, it is to pull people in, it no need to stay within margin. View it as a image while considering the composition. Have variation over pages, no too predictable. Don't add colour first and add page number for next progression.

Individual Feedback:
Mr.Vinod gave his comments and asked me to do some amendments on the spot. Like my half title and full title. The rivers are also too jaaring that it's effecting the readability. He had no problem with the graphical element, only there was a problem with the font. I changed my font to futura book and had it all aligned to the left and justified. This helped with the readability. He then helped me adjust my first paragraphs of each chapters and told me to now do the same treatment to the rest and finish it up by today.

Week 09

Reflection

Week 7

I didn't come class prepared this time, and i wished i did. Todays class was really really really tense, and we could hear the disappointment in Mr.Vinods silence.

Week 8

This weeks class was a little better, everyone had their work in check, even though there still alot of changes and feedback to process, it was still better then not getting at all. The class had also overshot as Mr.Vinod edits Ava's book and unfortunately i had to leave slightly earlier

Week 8

This week for project one we were to start figuring out our layout for our book, and i decided to revisit a book i read in Sem 2 called "Grid Systems In Graphic Design" (https://designopendata.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/gridsystemsingraphicdesign_josefmullerbrockmann.pdf) . The book is like a manual on appropriate font size, leading and kerning possible layouts and common rules to follow. Took down a few notes i plan to implement on my book.

Definitely a refresher on typography.
