Final Project

Week 10

We had to adapt our book to an iPad screen (1024px x 768px) for our final project into an Ebook. The Ebook is a multimedia publication, which will involve us in making visual animations. So for next week we were asked to do the first page till the end of the first chapter.

Week 11
Upon starting, I thought about the possible grid systems, keeping in mind on maintaining the same split paragraph structure from the printed book and also having the added navigation buttons.

First Attempt: First Page till End of 1st Chapter. Pg 1-11

When coming up up with the e-pub I realised I had to increase the size of everything by 3-4 pts.

Heading: Pillowlava/ 70pt
Body text: Futura Book Std/ 12pt
Pull-quote: Agrandir Wide  / 22pt
Sub-text: Times New Roman/ 10pt

After consulting Mr.Vinod he then told me that the body text is too small for an iPad, he suggested the body text to be the size of the pull quotes/introductions and have the pull quotes/introductions increase too. He was not that impressed the fact that I maintained the paragraph structure but he said it could still work.

Second Attempt after getting the feedback. pg 1-11

Week 12

I did not show anything this week as I was absent for the first half of the class, nor did I get any feedback. But i did continue working based on the last comments made and continued on till the end.

Third Attempt pg 1-26:

Week 13

I continue to work on my animation gifs and complete the work by this week for preliminary submission using After Effects.

It took a really long time for me to figure out a way to animate my still pictures. This technique known as parallax included me using photoshop and indesign. Id first look at the photo and try to find a subject that I can focus on. Essentially the idea is to split the picture into two separate layers your subject and background, have them move at the same time to create this zooming in and out effect.

I then applied the same technique on every possible picture.

After getting the animation all sorted, I then moved on to linking my pages and navigation buttons finishing up the rest of my book.

Feedback

Week 10
Specific Feedback: This week I showed my first attempt on my ePub layout, first page to end of 1st chapter. He first commented on the starting page of the chapter. I was given clear instruction to follow, on the spot live trial and error. He reminded me to beware of rivers and advised me on how I should transfer the design to ePub. Thats all for this week, then we all continued to do work.

Week 11
Specific Feedback:

Week 12
General Feedback : Preliminary submission of the book next week (Week 13) and also have the blog ready.

I did not show anything this week as I was absent for the first half of the class, nor did I get any specific feedback. But I did continue working based on the last comments made and continued on till the end.

Week 13
General Feedback:
As a designer you should always be aware of your mistakes. he final compilation blog for all projects should be done by next week, the reflection part may be added after a few days but we have to indicate it in the blog. Upload all the files into the google drive provided (everything in high resolution).

Specific Feedback:
Consider going through your body text and force line break some sentences to fix the rivers. The body text seems sticky, maybe you could also consider increasing the kerning and leading to help with readability Mr.Vinod said. There were also some specific areas that were amended on the spot rivers, widows, orphans, and also small paragraphs that Mr.Vinod found odd and asked me to just transfer it to the next paragraph or page.

as for my gifs, he was satisfied with them. H wished for more but unfortunately not everyone could be giffed. He also suggested to animate some of the graphic elements.
